Stripe's dashboard is powerful but complex. Here are tips to work faster and smarter.
1. Use the Search Bar (Cmd/Ctrl + K)
The global search bar is your fastest navigation tool. Search for customers by email, find specific payments, jump to settings. Press Cmd+K (Mac) or Ctrl+K (Windows) from anywhere.
2. Create Saved Views for Payments
Filter payments by status, amount, date range, or customer—then save that view. Next time, access it with one click instead of rebuilding the filter.
3. Use Metadata to Your Advantage
Stripe objects (customers, subscriptions, invoices) support custom metadata. Add your own fields—internal IDs, tags, notes—and search by them later.
4. Check the Timeline
Every customer, subscription, and payment has a timeline showing all events in chronological order. When something seems wrong, the timeline usually explains what happened.
5. Use Test Mode Liberally
Toggle to test mode (switch in the sidebar) to experiment without affecting real data. Test invoice flows, subscription changes, and new configurations safely.
6. Set Up Webhook Endpoints
Webhooks notify your systems of events in real-time. Even if you're not technical, knowing webhooks exist helps you understand what's possible for automation.
7. Export Data Regularly
Stripe's reports section lets you export payment data, customer lists, and more. Schedule regular exports for your records or accounting software.
8. Use Customer Metadata for Notes
Need to remember something about a customer? Add it as metadata. It's searchable and stays with the customer record.
9. Check Radar for Fraud Insights
Stripe Radar shows risk levels for payments and blocks fraudulent transactions. Review blocked payments periodically—sometimes legitimate customers get caught.
10. Explore the Developers Tab
Even non-developers benefit from the Developers section. See API logs (what happened and when), events (timeline of all account activity), and webhooks (what's being notified).
Bonus: Consider a Simpler Interface
If these tips help but the dashboard still feels cumbersome, that's normal. Stripe's dashboard is built for developers with complex needs. For day-to-day billing operations, a simpler interface like Conto Billing can save significant time.
